Tom cruise is returning with sequel of his famous movie “Top Gun“ which released in 1986. It would be a rare occasion the sequel of the move is coming 36 years from the release of the first movie. Sequel is titled “Top Gun Maverick”. It is directed by Joseph Kosinski. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer would be playing their roles from the first movie.

Jennifer Connelly is playing the love interest of Tom Cruise. Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Ed Harris are the other notable stars in the movie. Paramount Pictures had announced in 2010 about the development of the possible sequel to original movie “Top Gun”. Director Tony Scott was requested to return for the sequel. Project got stalled due to untimely death of Tony Scott. It was only in 2017 that Joseph Kosinski came on board to direct the project.

Initially movie was supposed to be released in July 12, 2019. But it got delayed multiple times due to difficult action sequences and due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many streaming companies tried to get the OTT rights for the movie from Paramount Pictures, but they were declined as Tom Cruise wanted the movie to be released in cinemas. The movie was released in United States on May 27, 2022. The movie has been a huge success and it has pocketed $1.4 billion worldwide. This has the biggest blockbuster in Tom Cruise’s entire filming career. The movie is showing the character Maverick confronting his past. He is training a young group of TOPGUN graduates. The group includes the son of his dead friend. He is training them for a dangerous mission.
