We have very some sad news coming from the world of Telugu cinema down south. Mahesh Babu’s father, Krishna, passed away at 79 years of age. These are some callous times for Mahesh Babu on the family front, as he had also lost his mother not so long ago. Shri Krishna was also an actor, and his career spanned five decades.

He was also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan, along with other notable recognitions. Ghattamaneni Krishna was a veteran Telugu actor known as “Superstar Krishna.” He passed away on November 15. He got admitted to the Continental Hospital in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli at around 2 am on Monday after falling unconscious. Doctors declared that the actor had suffered cardiac arrest and kept him under observation as his condition was critical.

He was born on May 31, 1943, at Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district. He was named Ghattamaneni Siva Krishna Murthy. He had completed his graduation from CRR College in Eluru. He was actively involved in the cultural events organized by his college. He acted in nearly 350 movies, and in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2009.

He received several special congratulations, including the Film Fare Lifetime Achievement Award-South in 1998. Apart from acting, he was also engaged in other aspects of cinema as a producer, studio owner, exhibitor, and distributor. He directed around 17 feature films under his production company Padmalaya Studios. He collaborated on these projects with his brothers, Adiseshagiri Rao and Hanumantha Rao.

He was also involved in politics and was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Eluru constituency in 1989, representing the Congress Party. He made his debut as a lead actor in 1965 in the movie “Thene Manasulu” and portrayed various roles, including characters with diverse mythological, folk, historical, and social backgrounds. He popularised the cowboy genre in Telugu cinema and acted in many espionage films inspired by James Bond. He was the highest Telugu-paid actor at his peak. May his soul rest in peace.
