Kannada Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s sudden death on 29th October 2021, has shocked the film industry. He was 46. He breathed his last at Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru, after a fatal cardiac attack. Fondly known as ‘Appu’, the actor was known for his work in super hit movies like ‘Appu,’ ‘Power,’ ‘Veera Kannadiga,’ ‘Maurya,’ and ‘Yuvarathnaa.’

On a fateful day, he worked out in the morning at the gym, after which, he complained of chest pain. His doctor gave him medication for pain relief before rushing him to the hospital. He was admitted to the ICU in a non-responsive condition. According to the doctors, he was brought to the hospital in a ‘Cardiac Asystole’ state, a state in which the heart stops working. Reportedly, he had suffered a severe heart attack and the team of doctors used shock treatment, cardiac massage, and defibrillation, as urgent cardiac resuscitation measures. However, the patient’s heart did not respond to the non-stop measures, which were eventually stopped at around 2:30 pm. Puneeth was declared dead shortly after.

Hospital scene after Puneet Rajkumar’s death –

Crestfallen fans milled around the hospital as the news of the actor’s sudden death aired on TV. The late actor’s body was kept at the Kanteerava Stadium for the last appearance among the public. He was cremated with state honors. 

Born on 17th March 1975, his father was the famous actor, Rajkumar. The star is survived by his wife Ashwini Revanth, and two daughters- Dhriti and Vendita. 

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai was among the first to react to the news. He called it a “personal loss” in his tweet and referred to him as “Karnataka’s most loved superstar”. Prime minister Narendra Modi also shared a photo with the actor and extended his condolences to the actor’s fans and family, calling his death “a cruel twist of fate.” In his view, the coming generations will remember the sandalwood megastar fondly for his “works and wonderful personality.” 

Charity work by Actor Puneet Rajkumar-

Though Puneeth Rajkumar hardly ever spoke of his philanthropic activities, he contributed wholeheartedly to foundations working for social causes. During the Covid pandemic, the actor’s Rs.50 lakh contribution to the Karnataka CM Relief Fund was widely appreciated. The actor also teamed up with the Bengaluru Police to spread awareness about fighting against the pandemic. In 2019, he contributed to relief funds for flood victims. He extensively supported 16 old age homes, 26 orphanages, and 19 gaushalas. Truly a man with a golden heart, Puneeth donated his eyes also, like his deceased parents.

The demise of a person with such high stature is an enormous loss to the film industry and the world.
