Stockwell spanned over 70 years of work as an actor in film, television, and theater. Born on March 5, 1936, he left the world, leaving behind his memories on November 7, 2021. 

He went to the University of California located in Berkeley for a year before leaving the program. 

History of Actor Dean Stockwell –

Originally from North Hollywood, Robert Dean Stockwell had Harry Stockwell and Elizabeth (Betty) Stockwell as his parents. Among his parents, his father was a replacement for Curly in the Broadway production of “Oklahoma!” and his mother was a vocalist who was singing under the name “Betty Veronica”, at that time. His elder brother was also an actor.

In the play The Innocent Voyage, Dean made his stage debut at the age of seven, in which his brother was also there. After this, he did several films under contracts and later entered the TV show business. 

He’s best known for his film The Boy with the Green Hair released in 1948. He also starred in various movies with Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, and Errol Flynn: Anchors Aweigh, Kim and Gentleman’s Agreement.

During the 60s, Stockwell left show business for the hippie scene, where he became acquainted with Neil Young and Dennis Hopper. The next few years saw him shine in low-budget biker films (Police Trap (1972)), psychedelic counterculture films, and comedy-horror films (The Werewolf of Washington (1973). 

Later, Harry Dean Stanton’s phone call persuaded Stockwell to come with him on the Wim Wenders’ 1984 film set located in Paris, Texas. This was at a time when he was getting a real estate license and packing up the family for a move away from Hollywood. The result was a string of memorable film roles including Blue Velvet, Dune, Married to the Mob — gaining Stockwell an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor — The Rainmaker and The Player.

Apart from acting, Stockwell was an activist for environmental causes and exhibited art, particularly collages and sculptures. In 2015, after experiencing a stroke, he had to stop acting.

After taking a permanent break from acting in 2015, he opted for a career change. He used his full name, Robert Dean Stockwell, to create art and exhibit around the United States.

Dean Stockwell was a former Quantum Leap star with 200 credits and a career spanning more than 70 years. We will remember him as an Emmy and Oscar-nominated actor. He was 85 years old and left the world on November 7, 2021. The death of Mr. Stockwell was confirmed by a family spokesman, Jay Schwartz, who did not specify a place or cause of death for Mr. Stockwell.
