Bezos awards Dolly Parton with $100 million

As per the latest news, the legendary country singer and songwriter Dolly Parton is awarded a $100 million Courage and Civility award by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his partner Lauren Sanchez. The money would need to be directed toward the charities which Dolly sees fit. This was declared by Sanchez on Friday while announcing the award. Dolly Parton said that when people are in a position to help, they should help.

She further said that she had always put her money where her heart was, and one should do the same thing. She said this to Bezos when accepting the grant. Parton then tweeted that she would try her best to do good things with this money. Dolly Parton is about 76 years old and is a well-known music icon. She has long been known as a philanthropist. She is also running a foundation named “Dollywood Foundation. “ It is aimed at boosting graduation rates in her home county. The foundation was launched in 1988.

Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails high-quality books to children from birth to age five free of cost, regardless of their family income. It was also launched in 1995. Parton donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University’s Medical Centre in 2020 to help her friend Dr. Naji Abumrad develop the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine. Parton also went to receive her vaccine from Abumrad in a video in which she had encouraged others to get vaccinated.

In 2016, she hosted “Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefits for the My People Fund.” It was a live telethon that raised money for the people whose homes were destroyed by wildfires in the Great Smoky Mountains.

She had also invested her royalties from late R&B singer Whitney Houston’s rendition of her song” I Will Always Love You” to purchase a strip mall in Nashville, Tenn last year to support the local Black community. It was such a noble gesture from Bezos and Sanchez, and we hope people like them who can help should follow their example.
